Jan. 11th, 2010 04:18 pmI was thinking about why I do the Dutch thing, and it doesn't make much sense. Yes, I like the clothing and I feel like it is underrepresented, but I feel like having learned German has opened up SO many possibilities when it comes to things like singing Lutheran hymns, reading poetry, research into clothing, etc.
So out of interest and because I like the name, I began looking for German variants of Aleit. Oh hey, Academy of Saint Gabriel. Sup?
Names in Nuremberg in 1497 has Allet, Alheit, and Aladt.
I like Allet the best.
I'm psyched about a current project. Rat is making me a box for my plates, bowls, and cups. I am making him a shirt or two. I have some cool ideas for the shirt(s).
I was browsing pictures of chests (not my Calvinist one *rimshot*) and found an example of arms with the name painted on the inside lid. I decided I would like to do this, and below the arms have "Bey mir ist kein Heucheley, ich sage wies geschaffen sey" (With me there is no hypocrisy, I say it how it is). It is from the Trachtenbuch translation and I like it.
